sadness and sorrow... again.

been reading the giver, for the first time since tenth grade. ironically i had an old book that year, but before i left the school i took a new paperback version fresh. take that you crappy school establishment. but anyway, the book's been giving me more sorrow. i don't know why but it does. anyway this is gonna be a short journal. if i weren't going to the mall soon i'd be working on the zombie love story. i wanted to leave some kind of long ass mournful poem but i think thats gonna have to wait...

Hey, I've kind of noticed something you've been doing... On some of your Deviations and journals you're saying things like "no negative comments" or "don't criticize me" or "if you don't like it, leave". Just letting you know, that's a sign of an amateur. You shouldn't be offended by negative comments, you should be open to any feedback wether it be good or critical. You'll never get any better if no one give you their opinions or tells you what you're doing wrong. You haven't been doing it TOO much, but just be careful it doesn't turn into a problem.

excuse me? the sign of an amateur? i hope that was constructive in intent. what i mean by those comments is i don't want to hear people criticize or flame my views, or tell me i'm "disgusting" or "perverted". i welcome artistic criticism as long is it's more constructive than attacking me, but too often i've seen hateful comments that stress rightest close minded views instead of the discussion of style, line and use of tools.

You know, actually, I thought about it today, and it was kinda stupid of me to say those things about you not accepting criticism like that. I was just reading through your old journals and was a little annoyed at how you kept blocking Josh's and my comments, and felt I had to say something, wether it be true or not. I understand what you mean by people leaving negative comments and not commenting on the work itself, it can get frustrating and you can get angry and defensive; it's happened to me before as well. I apoligize for being so shallow, and I hope you'll forgive me.

Of course it was contructive. I'm not talking about stupid comments like "lol this sux" or whatever, you have the right to be annoyed by those. I'm just saying be careful how defensive you get sometimes, because it could scare off people who want to leave fair comments. I apoligize if I offended you in any way, I just see too many artists not willing to accept criticism and didn't want you to become one of them.
